About Break the Silence
Break the Silence is a Scottish registered charity established in 2004, run by a dedicated team of specialist staff and an engaged board of trustees which includes several survivors, delivering free trauma-informed support funded through grants, contracts and donations.
Founded over 20 years ago in response to the need for specialist services, Break the Silence has grown into a centre of excellence for sexual trauma support in East and North Ayrshire, surviving challenges like COVID through flexibility and strong governance. Our funding comes from a mix of multi-year contracts, trusts such as the National Lottery and Robertson Trust, and individual fundraising.
At our heart is a committed clinical team who invest their own time and resources in ongoing training like EMDR and compassion-focused therapy, supported by a highly engaged board of trustees with diverse professional skills, many of whom are survivors themselves bringing lived experience to our work. Together, we maintain high standards through accreditations, thoughtful policies and continuous improvement, all while prioritising compassionate, client-led care that fosters healing at each person’s own pace.
