Therapies we use
We can offer a choice of therapies, techniques and approaches, which our therapists will tailor to suit you and your needs, helping you find what feels right for your own journey towards healing.
Whether that is EMDR to help process trauma memories, compassion-focused therapy to support kinder self-understanding, or another approach such as counselling, CBT, person-centred, pluralistic or integrative therapy, we work with you at your own pace. We will never push you to share more than you are ready to, and we aim to offer a safe, supportive space where you can gently rebuild trust, reduce anxiety and move towards healing in a way that is right for you.
Counselling
Counselling offers survivors a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk through the impact of childhood sexual abuse at their own pace. At Break the Silence, you work with the same therapist throughout, with support offered fortnightly, and we tailor the approach to what feels right for you.
Pluralistic
Pluralistic practice is a flexible, collaborative approach to therapy that values your own strengths, experiences and support network. This means working together to shape support around what matters most to you, at a pace that feels safe and respectful.
CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured therapy that can help you understand how your thoughts, feelings and actions affect one another. It can offer a practical way of exploring difficulties and breaking them into smaller, more manageable steps.
CFT
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a therapy that helps you build compassion for yourself and others. It can offer a supportive way of working with difficult feelings and gently developing a kinder relationship with yourself.
Person-centred
Person-centred therapy is a supportive approach that places you at the heart of the work. At Break the Silence, this means creating a warm, respectful space where you can explore your experiences in a way that feels safe, unhurried and led by you.
Integrative
Integrative therapy recognises that there is no single way to understand people or to support healing. Instead of relying on one theory alone, it combines different ideas and techniques so therapy can adapt to what feels most helpful for you at different points in the process.
Accessing Support
Getting support is simple and safe. Contact us by phone, online form, letter or self-referral (or you can refer someone else with their consent). If using post, envelopes are plain for your privacy. Our trauma-informed team will reach out within five working days to discuss options at your pace.
