About us
Break the Silence is a registered Scottish charity (SC036263) and Company Limited by Guarantee (SC341157) founded in 2004. We provide free, professional support to individuals affected by childhood sexual trauma across East and North Ayrshire. Our person-centred approach recognises that experience of trauma is unique, and we offer tailored support that promotes recovery and post-traumatic growth. We also provide psychoeducational support for partners and families, acknowledging the wider impact of trauma.
Our services are funded through local authority contracts, trusts and foundations, grants, and donations.
We are a British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Service, operating in line with its Ethical Framework. All clinical staff are professionally qualified psychotherapists (BACP, Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA), British Psychological Society (BPS), or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), and all staff, Board members, and volunteers are PVG/Disclosure verified. We maintain strict confidentiality and data security in line with ICO regulations.
Break the Silence holds EFQM Committed to Excellence Accreditation (2022) and Cyber Essentials Certification (2023).
In addition to direct support, we deliver training to organisations and individuals to increase understanding of trauma, its impact, and vicarious trauma.
