Appointments
Once we receive your referral details, we will review availability and contact you within 5 working days. This may take a little longer during busy or holiday periods. We will talk you through the support options available, explain our service user agreement, and discuss next steps.
Appointments are offered fortnightly, subject to the waiting list. We will do our best to meet your preferred time, and we can tailor this where possible, subject to clinical approval. If you have any scheduling needs, please let us know so we can take these into account.
If you are offered a therapist and would prefer someone else, you can contact the office to ask about a change.
Our Appointment Terms
As a Client you must endeavour to keep appointments that you have made. You should give as much notice as possible if you have to cancel an appointment. If you don’t attend an appointment and have not contacted the office to advise us, you may not be given another appointment immediately.
If appointments are repeatedly being cancelled or being missed, you will be given the opportunity to take a break from counselling with the opportunity to re-engage in the future. On the occasion where Break The Silence have to cancel an appointment, we will contact you.
If you are late for your appointment and it exceeds more than 15 minutes please be aware that you may not be seen for that session and another appointment will have to be scheduled. If you turn up for a counselling appointment under the influence of alcohol, prescription, non-prescription drugs or any other illegal substances, your session will be cancelled.
Break The Silence have a zero tolerance policy towards aggressive or violent behaviour.
Group Activities
Details of all group activities are available from your Psychotherapist who can discuss your participation in a group and refer you for a group place. There is no cost to access our group activities and many are funded by Trusts and Foundation grants/awards and from donations to the charity.
Group activities provide valuable opportunities for people affected by trauma to learn and enjoy new skills, develop healthy relationships, increase social interaction and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, build confidence and increase self-esteem. All activities take place in a safe, supportive environment (face to face or virtually) and are hosted by qualified tutors and professionals.
Please note that activities are available only to current clients.

If you do not attend and we have not heard from you, there may be a delay before another appointment can be offered. If appointments are missed or cancelled regularly, we may suggest taking a break from counselling. You are welcome to re-engage with the service in the future when the time feels right for you.
