CFT
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a therapy that helps you build compassion for yourself and others. It can offer a supportive way of working with difficult feelings and gently developing a kinder relationship with yourself.
CFT recognises that many people who have experienced trauma carry deep shame, self-criticism or a harsh inner voice. CFT aims to help you notice those patterns and begin to respond to yourself with more warmth, understanding and care.
For survivors of childhood sexual abuse, this can be especially important. Trauma can leave people feeling damaged, undeserving or responsible for what happened, and CFT can help challenge those painful beliefs in a way that feels supportive rather than confrontational.
The work may also help you notice the difference between threat, self-protection and soothing, and support you to build a stronger sense of safety and steadiness. The goal is not to ignore pain, but to help you relate to yourself with greater kindness as part of healing.
