We at Break the Silence want to say a huge well done to Sophia, Eden, Lexie, Lily and Amy from Kilmarnock Academy, who recently reached the finals of their school’s Young Philanthropist Initiative with us.
This group worked hard and showed a great deal of maturity in tackling a difficult topic. They delivered an impressive presentation to the S3 year group, teachers and representatives from local charities. Every year, we are inspired by secondary school pupils who take the time to learn about social issues affecting their communities and the work of local charities. YPI gives young people the opportunity to make a real difference, with finalists competing for funding to support causes they care about.
Although the group didn’t take home the final award, we are incredibly grateful for the passion, compassion, and commitment they showed in supporting our service and helping raise awareness of the impact of childhood sexual abuse and trauma.
Through our collaboration, we were also able to create a new online support module for young people affected by sexual abuse or trauma. Alongside this new resource, our service has also committed to continuing short-term safety and stabilisation sessions for young people who need support.
Thank you again to the pupils and staff involved for choosing to support our work and for helping us continue to reach those who may need us most.
